Hello, dear blog.

Perhaps of little interest, but just wanting to sit and write...

August. I've decided to go ahead and get my masters of arts administration at Indiana University. I love the program and my visit was just long enough to start warming up to Bloomington. I'll be there three semesters; my fourth will be spent in a full-internship anywhere I want (international?). I'll have a part time job doing something arts admin-y and be in business/arts admin/nonprofit grad classes.

Silly and sincere promises. I've promised my brother I won't talk to boys while I'm gone. I guess my family's worried that I'll meet a midwestern boy and never find my way back to Texas. I don't think there's too much of a danger because there's no RUF at IU, no PCA church in Bloomy, and few boys in my grad program. Truth be told, I'm still so in love with my singleness. It's going to take someone amazing to pull me out of it.

Summer. Can't wait. Celebrating marriages, traveling (DC? road trips? visiting Sydney flatmates? scuba trips?), having some of my favorite people back in Houston, time to read what I want to read and work out when I want to work out...

Seeking. Does anyone want to give me a job this summer? Or give me an intensive crash course in accounting? Or know anyone who might want to?

A degree of snobbery. I'm in a freshman anthropology class that I've put off for nine semesters. We studied art this week and I was forced to see the effect of my music degree and study of art. The freshmen (and my professor!) absolutely tore into a modern art piece of a coat-hanger mobile that sold for 2.3 million. I'd never pay that, but I saw a lot of meaning behind the particular items used and the playful childlike manner in which they were displayed. Maybe my mind was just playing devil's advocate, or maybe it was playing the artist that I've become. (??)

The list. I have a list of ten things that need to be done in the next three weeks. They are all rather large things (massive research papers, term projects, final exams) but once they've been checked off I will receive two pieces of expensive paper that say I know some things about music and some things about communication. Suddenly it all seems rather odd and trivial and fake.

My beautiful, forced hour. I suppose one of UH's greatest "downfalls" is that it's a commuters' school and the parking situation is absolutely horrible. For the past three years my earliest class has been 10am but there isn't any parking after 9am. At first I found this extremely annoying, but it has (frequently) become the most beautiful hour of my day. It's a guaranteed/forced hour of sitting in my car with windows down and Chris Thile music playing while I read, journal, or talk to my sister(s) on the phone. I'll miss commuting. I wonder if the students will miss seeing the crazy redhead sitting in her car every morning.

Wishing and working. To be more selfless, frugal, prayerful, helpful.

Loving. Stravinsky's "Firebird." Sitting in the back of the section and teaching all my little freshmen how to play with the beat, listen forward, and sightread recklessly. My brother's concise text messages and my sister's fast talking and my sister-in-law's thoughtfulness. Baseball season and my Astros. New friends. My dog (even though he bit me in the face). My nannying (even though Stefan throws hourly tantrums and Aaron smothers me in slobber, snot and mashed carrots). And... coffee? =)

Happy Saturday, everyone.
