Superman in Sydney

Hey, have any of you seen the new Superman movie? I saw it with Erika last night. The scene where Kitty loses control of her car is in Martin Place. I walk through there all the time. And the scene at the end where the mob is waiting outside of the hospital was shot outside Wynyard Station- it has a little green dome and the bus stops are labeled with letters on yellow circular signs- that's usually my bus stop into and out of the city.

(Whenever someone in the movie said, "Houston, we have a problem," all my friends turned and looked at me. Ha.)

Some of us watched "Finding Nemo" last week and we picked up so many little things in the movie that we missed before we came here. It wasn't anything huge, just little phrases and scenes that made us smile. (I kind of want to track down P. Sherman on 42 Wallaby Way. Ha.)

Sara N- I heard you're not working at Little Italy any more. Is that because you're coming to visit me?? =)

If anyone didn't know that my brother is the cutest guy in the world, you can just read his comment on my last post.

Walt- I don't start the training till the 15th, but I need to get those videos done. Keep bugging me.

I may be taking a last minute road trip to Canberra this weekend. Teya leaves Saturday and I think she's in some hardcore denial right now. I'm expecting a pretty big cryfest when I leave her at the airport Saturday morning, so escaping to Canberra that afternoon might be good.

My favorite thing about Wynyard Station is that if you hop on the bus around 6ish, you can cross the Harbour Bridge when the sky is pink on the right of the bridge and orange on the left. I don't know how that works, it just does. =)

love love love,
Mich

Randomness

2 quick stories:

The night of the Australia/Italy world cup game, I had dinner in Manly with all my gals because it was Catie's last night in Oz. Then, with all the crazy Manly Socceroo fans, we took the ferry to the city to watch the game at the Quay. It was a crazy ferry ride and included lots of facepaint, green suits, flags, and blowhorns. They sang and chanted ALL the way to the city and stood outside on the front deck belting out the national anthem as we approached the dock. Although their repertoire was impressively extensive, my favorite song of the evening was "If you're Aussie and you know it, clap your hands." And it's funny that they say "Go the Socceroos!" Using the article makes sense because there's only one team, but it sounds so strange.

I love being from Texas because Texas has its own identity. Whenever I'm traveling with Teya and people ask where we're from, she says "Maryland" and they say "where's that?" or "oh, is that near Boston?" When I say "Texas" they say "Texaaaaas!" or "oooOOOOooo, a Texas girl!" I get a lot of Texas conversations started and one night Amy and I were talking to our Irish friend, Ciaran, about whether or not I drive trucks and shoot guns. Ciaran said he'd never held a gun and in PERFECT unison Amy and I turn to Ciaran and say, "you've never shot a gun???" He was surprised at our shock and Amy and I laughed because suddenly it felt like a very American thing to say.

Have I mentioned how popular beetroot is here?

I love going to The Rocks market on the weekends and sitting under the harbour bridge, eating fruit salad and natural yoghurt, and listening to live jazz. But I will miss going with my girl friends.
