Muffy Toe

just finished my first day of dive training. It's not too hard and i'm a happy camper as long as my equipment fits and is working properly. but since we have to do so many skills and scenarios where it is NOT working properly it's kinda tough and a little mental. some fun things about today....

--small class- 3 students, 2 instructors
--one of the guys taking it looks like he could be my twin- same hair, same body type- seriously, if i had a twin, he would look like this guy. it's so funny
--imagine the greyest, rainiest day you can. that was today.
--typical aussie diver attitude: "you can only stay in bed for so long on rainy days. might as well go diving if you're going to be wet anyways."
--the pool was heated but the water BURNED like MAD. it's about 4 hours later and my eyes are still stinging. so the part where the mask comes off under water- yeah, that hurt. i couldn't see a thing and i definitely tried to put it on upside down. my instructor: "yeah,. we learn in instructor training how to help people who try and put their masks on upside down, but we've always laughed about that because we've never seen it happen in 6 years of instructing. you're the first one." yeah, thanks, that's me. i'm an american. and a redhead. =)
--after 4-5 straight hours (no break) in the pool with all the gear we had to do the 100 metre swim- that almost finshed me off, but I was killing both the guys in my class when it came to the 10 minutes of treading water.
--these wetsuits were so hardcore. I floated so much in mine that I seriously couldn't make myself sink to the bottom of the pool with it on. when we had to take off our BCs underwater my body floated straight to the top in about 2 seconds. I was still holding onto it though as hard as i could. so my fins were sticking up out of the water, i was completely upside down. my instructor was laughing so much underwater that he got water in his mask. ha.
--the only reason I love that my 50 yr old instructor wears a speedo that his belly hangs over about 5 inches is that it suddenly makes me feel pretty good in my bathing suit. =)
